Had to have my buddy Velcro put down today.

I have had him since my first wife was alive and he was a real friend. He stole a good size corner of the bed every night and woke up with me every morning. Never complained and would come to me when I got eye contact and waved my fingers. Velcro was a great white cat that was deaf. Keenly aware of the world and could bring a smile to anyones face. The boss of the house and the head pet in charge.

He is with my first wife now and will be missed just as much. :(

Sorry to hear of the loss Bob. Have you ever heard of the book "Rescuing Sprite". It's by Mark Levin. It's about him loosing his beloved dog.

May make a good read.

Re: Lost my buddy Velcro today :(

Bob I am so sorry to hear that man, my condolences. I just mentioned on another thread about a 15 year old cat that we had to put down a while back because he was very sick. We haven't had another cat in the family sense, all though I would love to have another. The oldest cat we have owned really was my brother's cat and it lived 18 years.

Again my condolences, I hate that and I know it's like loosing a family member.

Had my cat for 18 years, got sick and had to do what had to be done. Since then, its been 2 more dogs, one old, one cancer at 9.
It such an empty feeling, and sticks with you for such a long time. Take a walk through a Shelter...someone there needs you now. Hang in there...remember the good times.

Its hits a nerve for sure but knowing the cat was treated right as I know he was makes you know that YOU GAVE to the little life and even though hes gone hes still one lucky kitty.

Sorry about that, I feel for you. The loss of a pet is a far more serious hit than some people might think. It can be pretty devastating depending on how attached you can (naturally) get.
We have a 15+ year old cat and although old she is in good health she is still definitely getting up there. When I think of the fact that her days are probably numbered...its a tough thought....not partial to that at all.
Although I wouldn't do it right away...go take a look at the local pound/spca in a few months and see if you find any friendly faces that might need a bit of a home and a chance to show you their friendly nature. You never know what you might find.

So sorry for your loss. Here's a poignant story written for folks who've lost their pets. Author unknown.

"Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so that they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made well and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs caring him faster and faster.

You have been spotted and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, not to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face: your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look on again into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.

Then, you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.........."

It's never easy Bob. Sorry to hear.

I had one cat, "Sam I am", that lived to be twenty.
