Hello all,
This is a great forum and I am appreciating all the advice and help.

1995 VP 5.0 FL SX Cobra (Ford 302)
Question: I just received new GLM exhaust manifolds. One of them has a bunch of white powdery stuff in the water passages...to the point where it is almost full of it in a couple spots. Is that left over from casting...or? Can it be blown out and the manifold used?
Also, the sealing surface on the exhaust intake side has some raised areas and scars in the painted surface. The raised areas may just be paint. Do I need to scrape the paint off before installation anyway?
Also, the gaskets that came with the manifolds are GLM but say "made in China". Should I use these or get better ones?
thanks

I would clean them out then lightly sand off the paint on the mating surfaces. If it still looks bad give the place you bought them from a call.
You may be better to call them first just in case.

that's weird, i know GLM uses that "lost foam" casting technique, sounds like not all of the foam burned away or something... see if you can just get it out with a coat hanger or screw driver or something...

regarding the mating surface, i'd say run a wide file across it, i'd run one just to make sure all is smooth and flat, and to take out any high spots, makes for a better sealing surface. make sure when you file you criss-cross in your motions. otherwise you should be fine!

Re: VP/OMC exhaust manifolds

I have the exact year/model. My manifolds are orginal and will soon be replaced. I am not happy with the spark plug access with original manifold castings. Please let us know how the replacements work out.
Good luck with it.
