Hello got a good one for you, I have 14ft deep v row boat with 15 hp old evinrude tiller, can I convert this motor and boat to have controls with steering?, can I use parts off donner boat? or Im I wasting my time and just buy differnt boat, I have seen this on small boats before and thought it was pretty cool thanks Brian

I believe the controls will connect right up to it no other parts required. It's that way for the '57's and '58's but I dont know that engine specifically. That's a nice engine to have, I'm looking for one of those :) You can also get an electric start option on that engine if you look around for it.

I was told that electric start where 1957 and up and my 56 flywheel is not set up for it, this motor came off pontoon boat, I have done all tune parts, carb and water pump and cant wait for spring to try it out, just thinking of doing something differnt, but you think if I find a donner boat with all conrols from johnson or evinrude will it work? even if its from fiberglass boat cuz mine is allumium dont know if I spelled it right ,Iam even putting muniki fuel pump on it to do away with presure tank

This is the original add for your '56. Electric start was an option. If you do not have a toothed flywheel you will need to find one. You can look around to find one. Try aomci.org, they deal with the older engines.

I have a '61 18hp on my 16' pontoon boat and it moves it nicely. I plan to put a '58 18hp electric start on it this summer. The controls are out there also.

While sometimes a conversion can help get the weight better balanced I think
it is unecessary. It takes up space adds weight, complication, maintenance, and expense. What they call stick steering is also an option but still has the same issues as the other. You could buy or make a tiller extension and get the same performance results without the complications. Of course not as cool.If the motor was on a pontoon you may have to change the prop to avoid over reving.
