Bought a 1967 Glasspar Seafair Sedan two weeks ago. Nice hull. Came with a dead 115 hp Johnson outboard. About 2000 lbs, 17.5 ft long. Needs some cosmetic restoration.
I want to put tandem 4 cycle Merc outboards on the back.
Question, will two 25 hp put it on a plane, and what would one 25 hp do in a pinch? Any suggestions?

i don't know the exact boat, but thinking 2 50hp would be minimum.

It's a 1000lb hull without motor. Motor specs were up to 165hp for inboard/outboards. Back then a 70/75hp outboard was "big" and a common size seen on them. Probably gets 30 mph with that hp. Twin 35s were also popular. A single 35 will plane if lightly loaded but I seriously doubt a single 25 will. Twin 25s will do it fine.

Do you require 2motors because your running off shore or do you just figure its cool?If you want a back up go with 3/4 of the rating and use a kicker backup.A single will out perform twins every time and on less gas.
Ex. a single 80 out performs twin 40s.on less gas and maintenance.
