I know what it is suppose to do Bob, but SIL can't find it on the car he is working on and I am not close to him.

You have mail.

Remember, this is a transverse mounted engine, so the right front corner of the engine is on the passenger side closest to the firewall.

Thanks RP, I have sent that on to him.
He says that he was told to look in 2 different places and it was not in either place so I don't know if this is one of them or not.

I find its always a good idea to have the service manual for the car/boat/lawn mower you are trying to repair or have repaired.......saves alot of time.....just my 2 cents worth. Just ordered my manual for my 61 lark 3 and cant wait to get it.

Yea, that is ok if it's your car but when you work on different cars all the time it's kinda hard and expensive to keep all manuals on hand.

When you go to auto zone just pick up a service manual and add it to the bill. List it as "supplies required" With many shops getting 80/90 bucks a hour for labor whats an extra 15 bucks? A 20 k car needs a 15 buck manual.

Oh I see, I havent been around long enough to know we had a real pro hangin around. Oh yes I would much rather have someone tell me directly and not have to get a book.

It is nice to have someone tell you, but I also agree with you fairlane, I have a Haynes manual for all my recent vehicles. The only bummer is, I forgot to give the last two away with the cars when I sold them, so I now have a 1997 For Taurus manual and a 90 Cavalier manual, that I will NEVER need again! Great, more junk in my garage!

Re: Camshaft Position sensor

rear cylinder bank 1, in front of the exhaust camshaft.
It extends into the head and is sealed with an o-ring. It is not adjustable.

What makes you think there's a problem with it? The engine will run fine without it, as long as the 2 crank sensors are still functioning. That's why they put 3 sensors. Any 1 can fail and the engine can still reference #1 TDC for ignition timing.
It is not typical for it to fail on a N*, but I'm sure they do.

More common for the timing chain to wear out and give a code related to cam sensor. Read the code carefully. A code about a sensor doesn't always say to change the sensor. It can be reading a parameter out of acceptable range. The sensor might be fine and dandy.
Is the engine backfiring on hot starts? Has it ever broken the starter off?
