I have twin 91 Yam 250's and when I turn the keys the starboard motor will beep but the port motor makes no sound. I swapped the buzzers around in the keys switch so I know thats not it. Any ideas on how to test the wiring or sensors?

When I ground out the pink wires to the sensors the horn sounds off. It seems like whatever causes the horn to sound when the keys is first turned is the problem?

its supposed to do that
with the DES, Duel Engine Switch, that box located between the key switches. it self tests the alarm system at key on.
its also responsible to bring both engines into RPM reduction if either has an alarm condition.

rodbolt's memory is still good, only one key tests alarm system....Salty do you know how to test the thermosensors? Are you having a problem?

No problems. I just thought that both keys were supposed to beep.

Thanks

Re: How To Test A Yamaha Hot Horn???

its still a good idea to periodically test the circuits.
easy way is to turn the key on,engine off and ground one of the pink wires on the temp switches. once every 100 hours the engine oil tank water trap needs inspection,at least do it once per year.
this is also a good time to test the horn, oil transfer rate and oil alarm visual.
tilt the engine up slighty, cut the tie strap on the water trap, turn the key on insuring you have at least 1 gallon of oil in the remote tank, remove the trap nd drain the engine tank into a suitable container, when the level drops and sw3 closes yu will get an alarm and 3 bars flashing, the oil pump will now run for 180 seconds.
when the alarm sounds install the trap and start counting, if the engine tank cannot refill in less than 180 seconds go find the restriction in the transfer lines.
other than that the only time the engine will transfer oil is with the engine running.
and dont forget, each remote oil tank has an inline filter on the bottom.
