Sorry about the rain... But this is one of those cases where you very much get what you pay for. The genuines are more expensive, for a reason, and not just the "Mercruiser" badge. In Australia we pay for non-genuine what you pay for genuine... Be grateful.... :D:D:D:D

I've found a place that sells genuine for $230ea.

Another suggestion... Are you replacing both manifolds and elbows? If so, why not go to the 'dry-joint' manifold/elbows? For the same price you'll get a far superior product that will last longer and not fill your engine with water when they fail.:D

If you'd like the numbers let me know....

Re: Help with part numbers, problem solved, my error

ok... One of the weakest points on Mercruiser engines was the manifold to elbow joint. When the corrosion started attacking, it took out the metal around that joint pretty quickly (as you have no doubt found out), and a lot of wet stuff got to go where is shouldn't; straight into the engine cylinders, passed the piston rings and into the sump; where it has a great time with the local resident, oil, and basically screws up an otherwise perfectly good engine. The older system is now known as 'wet joint', because the joint itself carries the water. Around 2003 Mercruiser updated this area (not before time too!) and did away with the water flowing all the way through the manifold across the gasket surface and into the elbow. They got smart and closed off the top of the water ports in the manifold and elbow, made a couple of new passages (effectively on the 'outside' of the manifold and elbow) and routed the water through those, creating a dry joint at the manifold/elbow interface. They also shaped the gasket in such a way that if any water were to flow back towards the exhaust ports a 'drip tray' would catch it. This 'drip tray' is also in the path of the exhaust gas that has recently departed the cylinders, hence it's a tad warm. The 'drip tray' glows a lovely shade of deep red and the water disappears in a puff of steam, literally!!!

Hope I've helped.

Chris...........
I've added a couple of drawings if that helps (one of each system)....

I just put this drawing together to show how the dry joint ports go together. Compare that to the old way. It's about the only thing Mercruiser has done lately that was an upgrade instead of a downgrade.

Shoot, that's easy Chris. All you need is Microsoft paint, a nifty little program from Solid Capture, some online manuals, and a photobucket account and you can do exactly what I do. Oh, it's easy and quick too.

Here is a Merc SN for you to use at "http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/PartsExpress/HomePage/homepage.asp" (Remove " " )
After clicking on Parts for Mercury Marine Products
When you get to the parts list, choose exhaust manifold and elbow.

Just be careful on the elbow. The first of the dry joint elbows were 7.5 degree and can be used as a direct replacement for the 'wet joint' ones (along with the dry joint manifolds), but Merc changed the angle and made the newer ones 15 degrees, with a change to the ali pipe immediately after the elbow. The newer ones are also 1.7" taller.

Drive  Uhhh, Sorry, but I only fly 1st class, and your limo driver can pick me up at the airport. Please have the engine out of the boat, cleaned and ready for me.
Tools won't be a problem, I'll have the local Snap On tool dealer meet me at the engine. We will get new tools for the job. Then, since you bought them, you can keep them, I try to never use used tools on a new job.
I'll have my secretary contact you with my food and beverage list.

See you soon.
