:confused:Having problems with baby blue! I have had this boat and motor for many years . while I was running up the river ,the motor had a thump as if I had hit something. not uncommon in the Ohio, the prop was fine .. killed the motor. when I fired it back up ,I had to putt back to the dock.. It would not throttle up to speed . Every time I tried to get past idle it would kill the motor.Does any one have a suggestion on what to look at ? I did not hear the overheating horn. lower end ,,power head ?????

What year is it?

My first inclination would be watch the linkage, under the hood, as you advance the throttle. This can be done with the engine OFF.

Is the linkage hitting anything? Does it work smoothly?

It is a 1971 . linkage seemed to be moving . when I checked it .

It could be many things.

1. Fuel stoppage.

2. Electrical short in control box or under hood. That's why you need to watch the linkage move to see if it hits anything and moves evenly.

The "bump" while running tells me that the engine is stopping for a split second.
When you first started to describe it, it sounded like a prop hub slipping or the lower unit clutch dog slipping. Then you said it won't accelerate and just quits, that eliminates the prop and lower unit.

Run the motor in reverse to clean it out?

If whatever you hit killed the motor, it may have sheared the flywheel key and let the flywheel slip a bit. That could explain why it won't run above an idle.
