I am going to have to rebuild my power head for my 84 Johnson 140 V4
But I was hoping to save money and maybe find someone that has a used motor that has a lower unit blown where I can use the power head, can anyone help or suggest what to do ?
A rebuilt is gonna cost around 2k not too mention what it will cost me to pay someone to install it, Im in Spring Hill Florida, any suggestions? I did call a salvage yard and found the same motor not running but said I could use the power head, just made me nervous about the not running deal.

Thanks BG

Thanks but I just happen to know where a good one is. Just thought I'd pass on some info if he needed it.

Re: Help! need info on a Johnson 140 V4

If I do Try and rebuild this myself what manual has the most pictures that I should use and where can I buy it from?
I have a guy in St petersburg willing to rebuild my powerhead for around $1500 I sent him email pictures of the heads off the pistons and he seemed to think it might have a timming problem too not too mention if I have had water getting into the cylinders he said the crank shaft could be rusty too, and said that it could have a bad timming base. If anyone else I could email these pics to you if someone could give me a honest answer? my home email is DKocsis@Tampabay.rr.com
I am strapped for cash dont want to let someone take advantage of me If I have to be there when they break it down I want to see it for my self Thats why I am concideing doing it my self but I want a good manual its a 1984

Thanks again for all the replies This forrum is great!

Keep an eye on ebay. Gary_HNC also has a link to a guy with a good assortment of manuals, hopefully he reads over this. If not, outboardbooks.com reprints factory manuals. I would not reccomend Seloc or Clymers manuals for your application, I would stick to the OEM manual.
