Spinner, he's lucky to have you as a father-in-law - even if you are an ex FIL. I know this is tough and you worry about both his chances for survival and what his quality of life will be if he does survive. Whatever happens, Chris knows that your daughter and their children will have a good support system in you, even though his own family apparently doesn't have the good sense to be able do the same.

Spinner, you are one solid fellow. I wish both of you the best and I think your strength through this is exemplary.

Well, I just caught up on all the news here, glad you made it out there spinner, it was good for you, & him, in fact for all the people involved. I'm sorry to hear he was in poorer shape then you expected. He sounds like quite a guy! (Why is it always the good ones?) but then again so do you. It's got to be a sad situation for sure, but a relief, and some peace, for you both. I'll keep you all in my prayers.

Well, a little update on Chris.
Day before yesterday they had him in a chair.
Allbeit, strapped in, but still, sitting in a chair.
They have done some kind of thing so that he can now talk and have the trac(sp) in at the same time.
He has his bad days and good days.
His dad brought a lawyer in to talk to Chris so Chris could tell him his wishes.
Will maybe call out there later today and see what he sounds like now.

that's encouraging, some times, with a trach, they can put there finger over the hole, and speak softly.

No, some experimental thing where the breathing tube stays attached, but he can still talk thrui his mouth.

He has been moved to Texas to some hospital there but he don't like it and is looking at one in New Jersey that deals in his kind of injury.
Have not spoke with him or his dad since before I went camping but plan on it this week sometime and will update again.

New Jersey has a few top notch physical rehab centers. Top of the list is Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation Kessler Institute. Thats where I went when I needed physical rehab. I was there when Christopher Reeve broke his neck. I remember his mother coming in to get a tour of the facilities, but I don't think he actually was an inpatient.

I'm sure Chris, his family and doctors will find a good location for rehab. Wishing him the best.

Mark.
