Re: Whats your IQ

Higher than most, not as high as some. I don't get too wrapped up in it but I suppose, if there is a reason to enjoy having a high IQ, it is simply that it makes me curious. I like that fact because it makes me read a lot and that makes me learn. I hope I keep learning until the day I die because doing so makes life fun.

Re: Whats your IQ

I have taken three IQ tests, and my score has consistantly declined with each one (although in my defense I did have a fever of 102 during the last one). The first one was 172, the second was 170 and the third was 152.

I don't fully trust any of those figures however, as all three tests were administered by the same group and I found them to be excessively easy. Funny timing for this thread however, I have another test scheduled next week (this time being administered by mensa whom I trust the accuracy of emensely moreso than the others). I should have the results in a few weeks, but I will venture a guess of somewhere in the 140's.

Only had one many years ago when I first got into trucking and leased onto an outfit that hauled nothing but Government loads.
168 if I remember correctly.
Don't know if that is good or bad and don't really care. :)

Spinner, that's pretty good. Of course, we're all in the top 10% in the world. You have to consider, if you can read and write, that alone puts you in the top 25%. If you can read and write decently, that'll put you in the top 10%.

According to mensa, 130-132 puts you in the top 2%. The highest recorded IQ is 232. However, I do think their test is more difficult than others I have taken (at least their online fun test is, it doesn't give you a score but does give you an idea of what their tests are like).

Of course, IQ isn't supposed to be a measure of knowlege, it just measures your ability or inability to figure things out. So if you're still thinking about towing your boat with a golf... :D

Re: Whats your IQ

IQ has nothing to do with what you know. . .theoretically. As SgtMaj said, it is merely the ability to understand things.

I was tested twice in my youth. Once by the NC School system and once by the Johnson-O'Connor Foundation. Both came out exactly 150.

Then I was tested by the US Navy's General Classification Test. They told me that my score of 72 equated to an IQ of 144. That, plus my visual memory, is what got me into the covert assignment of passive recon.

MENSA didn't test me. They accepted the previous tests.

While I understand that a high IQ is not a measurement of knowledge or wisdom I do believe that it got me opportunities and assignments that otherwise required high academic credentials (I didn't get my Ph.D until I was 60).

We need to understand that "intelligent" does not mean smart or wise but it does mean that a person has excellent tools for learning.

Re: Whats your IQ

Last time mine was tested was in 4th grade and they tried to black marker out the actual score, but I read through it by holding it up to the light--it was 131. I agree that it is only a measurement of your ability to comprehend and process information, not of actual knowledge. One of the downsides to witten I.Q. tests is different people process information differently and none of the tests I am aware of take these differences into account. For example, some people process the written word easily and other people process the spoken word more easily and thus would probably score better if the test were administered orally. It's a simple matter of how you take in the information available to you and written tests favor people who are more visually attuned. Typically people who read a lot, even if they read trash novels, do the best. I've seen people who score well on I.Q. tests, but they are morons in person.

Re: Whats your IQ

When my wife was getting her professional degree in School Pyschology she had to test people for a class. She gave me the WAIS-III which was something like an 1-1/2 hour long with all sorts of crazy stuff like stacking black and white beads of differnt shapes in certain order after looking at a flash card with a certain pattern. Also reciting numbers back after hearing them with the string of numbers getting longer each time until you missed 2 in a row I think. It was like mental gymnastics. Hurts my head now just thinking about it. scored 135

Re: Whats your IQ

A few years back I applied for a job through a professional employment agent. They required an IQ test, which I did. When the psychologist talk to me about the test and asked what I was working as and I told her 'boat mechanic' she was surprised. She said that IQ was measured in numbers anymore, but the what percentage of the population you fell into. I am in the top 1%, but was pointed out, that doesn't make you smart.... But I do love a challenge :D
