Hi guys, thanks for helping me with my last problem. Got a new one for you. I've spent a few hours trying to do this myself but to no avail.

I've got all the parts now for my 4hp Seahorse. Model no. 4BRL79D from 1979

Now, I put it back together, new gaskets and seals etc, new plugs. I try to start won't go, i figure this might be because of that oil i put in the cylinders to keep it lubed up while not in use so rather than pulling for ages, I take the recoil unit off and attach a drill to the flywheel. I spin over for a few seconds, this is all in water, anyway, spin over for a bit, nothing happens, i play with choke and throttle and it will start at WOT but as soon as i lower throttle, it will die.
Has to stay at WOT otherwise it just stops firing. I thought weak spark but i can spin flywheel over with my hand and they spark with a massive spark, best spark I have ever seen on any engine to be honest so not that. After all that spinning and running for 1-2mins at full throttle would have got rid of all that excess oil but it still wont start at low throttle.

The carburettor was completely stripped and sprayed with cleaner, then compressed air. Jets seem fine.

Any ideas?

It's not getting fuel at low speed so it appears you did not clean the low speed circuit in the carb enough. Try and spray some 50:1 pre mix in the carb when spinning it. If it starts/sputters then it is the carb and the low speed side as the high speed side seems to work. Hate to say it but it sounds like you will need to pull the carb again.

Also make sure it's not a kill switch / wiring issue, but if it starts at high speed it is not.

Are you sure it is running on both cylinders? Spark is only part of the equation. One of the new plugs can be oil-fouled. How is the compression? Is the carburetor's throttle linkage free?

Yes it sparks on both cylinders, sounds like its running on both but how to be sure?
Plugs arent oil fouled
Compression is good due to new gaskets
throttle linkage is all lubed up and moving fine
