One of my coworkers gave me an adobe photoshop elements CD to down load. He bought it some time ago and downloaded it and registered it when he did. Now when I went to download I get so far then It asks me to register. There seems to be no way around this. Some disk give an option to register later,, not this one.

So My question is this, If I do use the serial numbers on the CD {Thats what they ask for) will my coworker and I get into some kind of copyright BS with Adobe? Or can I just do it and not worry about it?

Re: Download question

I have registered programs in the past that I have borrowed and not have any consequences. The last program I borrowed was an Anti Virus program that I did not register.

The copyright to me is just a way for the company to make money and its not like I blame them. They want you to buy your own copy of the program, don't you know that these companies can go out of business if everybody shared there software  :). Same with music CDs. I wished we could share software with friends and family and not half to worry about copy right infringement.

I personally wouldn't register any borrowed software now a days. I believe there can be a conflict with updates for the program etc etc, that is why I didn't register the anti virus program because the owner of the disc had to log in by user name and password to update the program and change settings. If the co-worker loaned you the disc and it happens to be an older disc you should be alright when registering it. Just my 2 cents.

You're asking for pointers on loading software that you didn't buy? That's cheeky.

It is illegal. You can use those numbers and the program will register. They do not know if it is the original user that formatted his hard drive and started anew of if the original owner crashed his pc and this is the new one where he is installing the software, or if it is an user illegally installing a copy of the software.

Some programs use a key installed on the data ports, other use a signature of the pc hardware and you have to get a new registration before using this type of software. In that case, you will not be able to install the program without paying for it.

Re: Download question

It depends. If your friend uninstalled the program and did not upgrade it then you are OK. If he is still using it ar he upgraded it then you are a criminal................

Hey boatbouy, If you cant help out why open your pie hole. I was simply asking if I would get into a jamb for doing this. I guess you could not understand my question because I may have misspelled a word. So why don't you Schlep back over to dockside and post some of your worthless holier than thou drivel there.

To the other responders thanks a bunch

Sorry SBN. It just keeps getting harder to contribute to this site.

Hey Vlad it's been a while. Hope this finds you well. I"ve had enough of dockside, but I occasionally stop by fishing and non boating tech stuff and help where I can. :)

Piehole? That's a new one on me. I'm not a huge fan of pie so I guess I'd call it my cakehole or cookiehole.

Re: Download question

Some software makers will allow you to register on 3 different computers, some more with a different licence....If you register and they don't allow it they have a quota and it's full so no updates or you will get a virus as an update.....With all the free software out there why even try with used software just google what your looking for .....download save and virus scan it before you install....maybe try some Linux based stuff the Live CD's are great or create a new partition to install Linux based softwares on your hard drive 2systems one drive

Re: Download question

Never heard of a software company sending out a virus as an update!
I can see it not letting you update if it asks to verify your copy of software and that fails.Virus?I doubt it:rolleyes:
Anyway,My copy of photoshop updates just fine and is installed on several computers.
I have even had Microsoft verify my hacked copy of XP Pro,It sees it as legit and does the updates. Its installed on at least 10 PCs...
