this is a 30 hp, but look like it would work with the smaller motors as well. Rather than changing the bypass cover, he drill the existing cover, and mounted a a 3 line fuel pump.

Looks reasonable. Wonder which part number fuel pump that is?

"Back in the day" that was a kit from OMC.

Re: Saw another way to convert from 2 line Pressure tanks.

That's an interesting conversion and it addresses an issue with the 30hp that the 35hp wouldn't have - lack of a mounting point for the fuel pump on the bypass cover. I have never worked on a 30hp but the photos show that the "bosses" for the fuel pump mounting screws are not molded into the bypass cover for this motor, as they are on the 35hp engine. I suppose you could put a bypass cover off of a 35hp on the 30hp but this would be the way to go if you either couldn't get your hands on the later model piece, or just didn't want to swap the parts.

Nice post ..... thanks!

I've often wondered why it couldn't be done this way. However, it looks like a bit of a mess to me. There must be a better place to mount the pump.

I too would like to know which pump that is.

it looks like BRP#438555 or Sierra 18-7353 Fuel Pump to me. Those pumps are for 20-30 hp motors. It look just like the ones on early 80's 3 cylinders, but I'm not sure the pump for the bigger motor would work.

i think it is the brp 383765, which use the pulse line, the inlet and outlet.like the 71 50 hp, it would develope enough pressure, and the float needle would control the flow.

Just for the record, the 30 and 35hp bypass covers are not interchangeable. Different shape.

You can see in the picture that, whatever pump it is, the pulse line has been added and the pump grossly modified to do it. I think the 385784 or its successor would have been a better choice. See thumbnails.

What do you see that makes you think its been modified? It looks just like the one I have on my desk thats off a late '70s 70hp, here's some pictures of it.

this is a 30 hp, but look like it would work with the smaller motors as well. Rather than changing the bypass cover, he drill the existing cover, and mounted a a 3 line fuel pump.

That looks like a lot of extra plumbing to do a simple job. He has already drilled and tapped the cover plate, which is the most bothersome task. An early 60's fuel pump (1 inlet-1 outlet) which attaches to the cover plate will work.Tap the back of the pump and mate it to the by-pass cover plate with a close nipple, using fuel rated teflon tape. Nipple should not be proud of the back side of the cover plate.

To TD and guy74:

There are two types of lift pumps; (1) bolted to an intake manifold with a gasket in between or (2) the ones with three nipples which are connected to a mount.

Sort of indicates that you don't know what you are looking at, which leads to the idea that you don't know what you are talking about.:)

And your point?

The pump in the pictures is not the one referenced by the part numbers.

I know, it's a bigger one. It just looks like the one on the motor in question. The part #s I gave were for a smaller 3 line pump that I found on Iboats. My point? I know I'm pointless. :D

The fuel pump looks just like the one on my 1978 85HP part number 0388268 for the pump housing on BRP. I'm not 100% sure on this though.

Re: Saw another way to convert from 2 line Pressure tanks.

my point being it is a 3 hose pump. whether the correct number none of us know for sure. Green is gas into pump, red pulse line, yellow to the carb.

also: "Sort of indicates that you don't know what you are looking at, which leads to the idea that you don't know what you are talking about." was an uncalled for statement.

not really appreciated on a friendly site.
