Hey guys, I have an older mercury outboard I think from the early 1980's serial #5903423 and I was wondering if this motor has a charging system on it? any help is appreciated.

Photog, It should have a stator and rectifier to charge the battery. Look around for a black three ring terminal cube. That will be the rectifier

Great, thanks guys...I will look at it in detail tonight but The only thing I do notice is that there is the standard stuff going into/out-of the engine...throttle, battery pos & neg... but on the throttle control at the helm there is a short wire with a plug coming out the unit, the coupler has 3 pins inside it...could this be it?

A three contact connector on the MerControl is for the Tach. The three contacts are +12V, Ground, tach signal.

On that motor the tach signal is one of the stator leads, and will have a AC voltage on it when the engine is running.
