Re: Engine dies just above idle...

Its just amusing to me that I can ask questions to learn something more about a subject, and try to avoid buying a new costly part when its already been replaced once in the past......and get ridiculed for trying to figure out if all it needed was a good cleaning and that maybe I missed something......

If you get a carb rebuild kit and have access to a Carb acid dunk cleaning rig. Strip the carb down to every part and jet there is soak it or some machines articulate. Then install the kit you may have a chance with that carb. What everyone was saying was that once a carb gets that bad ( stuck float etc.) your better off with another carb. Even a good operable used one.

Cool, Stick around this is a really good forum "we" can learn alot. It's been very helpful to me. I understand about saving money i got an old 1970 w/prealpha drive i'm trying to keep afloat. Good luck with it and check into getting a antisiphon valve on that fuel line their cheap and required. :)

well that doesn't mean a thing. I've gotten 2 bad trigger coils in a row (that were all brand new). After the manufactorer told me i was crazy... and me highly standing behind my decision, they sent me out a 3rd that worked like a charm. in the day and age of everything made in friggen china, never assume a new part is going to be good. If you make a decision to change a part, and still have the same issues... Double check the part!!!! before you move on.

on a side note..... before you go chasing a fuel issue make sure your timing is correct and advancing properly. It's always "timing before fuel". Remember that and commit it to memory.
After that, make sure everthing is in good tune, as in good plugs, wires, cap rotor, all filters, a SQUEEKY CLEAN flame arrestor etc. Check for fuel restristions with a gauge and air leaks with a clear line, and check that the fuel pump is capable of producing a vacuum and also outputing the correct pressure before you tear into a carb. not to much more after that.

ps: what is your in gear idle rpm?
