I have 1970 85/115 Evin. that I would like to find a used power tilt for. My question is , does the factory power tilt move the motor back on the transom any farther than the manual tilt(I don't want to move the motor any further back than it already is) Also if I find one ,do I need the factory wiring harness or will any rocker switch work and what years of motors would fit this old model?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Power tilt and trim

chances are you will have a hard time finding a working one. if you do it will really be expensive. the factory one the engine stays where it is. your other option is a CNC unit, that has minimum set back.

Re: Power tilt and trim

I have actually found one on ebay off an 1988 115 that needs the piston rebuilt, I not sure it will fit and the biding is not over for a while but the price currently sits at 74.00 which it probalbly won't stay at. I am assuming that parts can still be bought from the factory.
Thanks

I would not waste money on one that needs rebuilding. It would be cheaper in the long run to find a working unit.Keep looking, they are on ebay all the time.

The 88 unit will not fit your 1970 motor unless you are very good at fabrication.

Re: Power tilt and trim

A friend of mine just removed the power tilt (tilt only not trim/trim) from his 1976 70 hp johnson. It was working fine but he wanted tilt/trim. If that is something that would suit you he'd probably let it go for a song and a dance.
