Can you have a heatexchanger (old style) with no cover or fill? Do you ad an expansion bottle to it? Would it be piped into one line or? L6 165 merc. I have a 4"x20"+ heat ex. I'd like to put it to use but it has only two larger in/out-fw and two smaller in/outs-rw. How would i plumb this?

If you don't have an area for expansion/tank, then as the water gets hot and tries to expand, you'll likely pop a core plug... Not good! And how would you fill it? Take a hose off? and checking it before each days use? Messy!!!

Oh OK, I just dont ever remember seeing one anywhere. Ive seen the exchanger with the fill/pressure cap only. Guess i'm on another mission to find one of those. I just got a starter(marine) that trim sender(orig. equip):) and an oil pan for my 292(marine) :D Does that rig have a name? Thermostat tank?

Re: heat exchanger

Does anyone have a part# maybe sierra? picture? Dimensions? I'm not sure if i can mount it on the therm. housing because it's a L6 with little room between front of eng. and engine cover. So if there's not enough room can't i mount and plumb Any expansion tank in another spot in the compartment?

Re: heat exchanger

Can i do this? I'd like to cool the manifold with fresh water too. And just dump the raw water out the riser. See attached changes, hope it can be understood. Or how should it be done to cool manifold with fresh water? Thanks

Re: heat exchanger

Got it Bond-o Does that heat ex. look big enough to cool a full system (manifolds)? I dont see why I can't "T" in a remote expansion tank?
