Re: MANUAL question

Back in the 60's and 70's, manuals 1 and 2 came out in 2 different ways.
1 big book or 2 smaller. Not sure how Merc sells them now.
Anyway.
Service manual #1, 1963-1973 All engines and drives. Old Old PN C-90-68648- Old PN 90-68648, newest PN 68648
Service manual #2 1974-1977 All engines and drives. Old Old PN C-90-71707, Old PN 90-71707, newest PN 71707

The Merc manuals are the best of all of them... I've worked with Merc, OMC, Yamaha, Suzuki... the whole lot... and trust me, you have the best...

In the early days, the Mercruiser range was a couple of Ford engines, a couple of 4 cylinder GMs, a 6 cylinder GM, the SBC, and a couple of different drives. All of them were covered in one manual for a given year group. That made it a pretty big book, so they cut it in two, hence vol 1 and vol 2. Later as the range changed they divided the engines and drives up... Now, instead of one manual with two volumes, we have to buy one manual for Alpha drives, one manual for Bravo drives, one manual for SBC, one manual for 4 cylinder engines, etc...

This is my library...

One thing you need to understand. If you was to order either manual 1 or 2 from Merc or a Merc dealer, you would get the FULL manual. Be it a single volume or in two volumes, and they do NOT have different part numbers, cause you can't order Vol 1 or Vol 2, you can only order the full manual. Only those cleaning out their garage sell half a manual to unsuspecting buyers on ebay.

hum, wish i'd a known that....i was one of the unsuspecting buyers and had to buy 2 times from ebay to get both volumes of #1. that'd get me up to about $50 if i remember right... makes a new one from merc look better all the time.... oh well, to late for me.. but not for others....
