Hello,

I am looking at a 19ft Monark King with a 115 horse Optimax on it. I am concerned if this motor is big enough. The boat is rated for a 175. The weight of the boat is 1500 lbs. My main use will be fishing with some light tubing/ski use. Don't need a boat to race across the lake but need to get back to shore when the storms roll in. Thank you.

Mate - I have a 20.5 foot glass Seafarer - 21 degree deadrise. She weighs about 2400 pounds without fuel in her. She is a cabin cruiser so there is plenty of windage to take into account. I have a 93 115 Yammy V4 2 stroke and fully fueled (140 litres) and with 2 adults and all the fishing gear she will do 40 miles per hour and hole shot is really good too. I have no power gripes and she cruises very nicely at 30 miles per hour. If I upgraded it would be for fun more than anything else.

Cheers

the 115 will probably be fine, for what you are doing. the rule of thumb is no lower than 70% of the rate HP. definately do a test run and see if it meets your needs. remember it may run fine with 2 in the boat, but what is it going to do with 6.

Isnt 6 overloaded for a 19 footer....sure is here where the bay chop gets extreme many days of the year and rough most afternoons. Would depend on conditions though.

Cheers

PS. If you want a comparison I have had 4 adults with average weight on 90kg, one teenager (60kg) and 4 little kids in calm waters - 140kg of fuel and 80kg of gear - top speed 38 miles per hour with good hole shot.
