How hard do you guys think that would be to turn? curious to hear from others, like a meat grinder, or ? Either way that is a pretty cool looking unit. That is what the guy on here thats using the lawnmower engine needs.

Probably like a meat grinder, but imagine how many cranks it will take to get anywhere. Agreed - it is a beautiful contraption, but I refuse to call anything a motor if I have to supply the power!

If I was going to go by hand I think I would use the turn of the 19th century
trolling motor::"oars".On a St Lawrence skiff (18 -22ft by about 38inches)the guide would troll all morning serve a shore dinner and troll again. Not to mention simply getting from shore to the fish.Of course for their size they were pretty easy to row.

We have one called an "Aqua Cycle". It's an actual outboard style lower unit hooked up to bicycle pedals and a tractor seat on a 4-foot long tube that extends forward to rest upon the seat of the boat. You sit on the tractor seat to pedal. Has an intricate series of levers to allow you to lean the seat one way or the other to steer. Gets about 2 nautical miles to the peanut butter & jelly sandwich...

Re: hand crank trolling motor

I seen one on ebay a while back, it was back in the early 1900s.

I would use it in a very extreme emergency only lol. Of coarse the men back then were more into doing labor and not afraid of it as some of us are now a days. Notice I said us (meaning me included), I can work with the best of them but I'm just saying there is a difference between the men then and now. They probably loved to have that type of trolling motor back then.

I also seen an old outboard motor that looked just like the one on aomci's logo. That motor went for over a $1000 and it was in rough shape, I don't recall the name of it but it sold. I can't remember how much the hand crank trolling motor went for.

My great grandfather used to hire someone to troll for him. There is a picture of it at my grandmother's house as a matter of fact. It was less like someone that was hired if you know what im talking about. But i have seen that type of thing before!

Re: hand crank trolling motor

it took me too long to get to the lake and i can tell that it took to long because when i got there it was gone. So i never really got there cause when i did "get there" there was no lake! So it was tough cause i never really got there cause it was gone! Goes to show you what can happen if you dont get there quick enough! What can end up happening is that when you get there you never get anywhere cause the lake is gone! So moral of the story is: if the lake is gone then you dont really go anywhere cause when you get there you never really get there cause its gone!

True, but the effort quotient has been diminished considerably for that $500. but, they can be bought for quite a bit less if you are a catfish.:D
