I trying to remove flywheel, i looked at the service manual for steps and 3 other books that i have.

I have removed the flywheel nut and tried to pull the flywheel using the y-shaped puller in picture, but the washer keep bending and sliding threw the puller , so i doubled the washer and the same problem happened . The fly wheel has not moved.

Question : Am i using the wrong puller? Or is there something i missed on the motor disassembly , that was not cover in the Service manual?

Lower unit question, there are two seals ( oil retainers) , one on the drive shaft under water pump wear plate and one at the back of the propeller shaft.

Question: Can these two oil retainers be removed and a new one reinstalled without having to disassemble the the lower unit?

Thats the same kind of puller I use but I upgraded to grade 8 bolts and washers. You might try to tap on the puller with a hammer to break it loose, just don't smack it too hard. If you can pull the driveshaft out of the lower unit you can replace that seal. You have to disassemble the lower unit to replace the prop seal.

i have also used several different size washers, stack them up. #8 harden bolts are a necessity, standards will strip off. as said get good tension on the center bolt, then a good rap with a hammer, thighten again. it will come off with a POP. you may have to leave the tension on overnight.

Have the exact same motor, and hadthe same problem. Use grade 8 screws(or at least hardened cap screws) and double or triple up fender washers under the screw heads. I had to grind a flat on the washers so they cleared the center screw, but after that it worked great.I used 3 fender washers per screw. Fender washers are ones that have a much larger outside diameter than normal washers. Mine fit the 1/4-20 screws through the middle and were around 1 1/4" diameter outside. Rick

The proper bolt is called a stripper bolt. This is a shouldered bolt sold by most machine supply dealers.

I've never tried this because I have a real puller with the real bolts and washers, but I've heard of putting the starter ratchet (the cage thingy that was originally held by the 3 bolts) on top of your puller and feeding the puller bolts down through it. In other words the ratchet acts like heavy duty washers. In case you are wondering, the ratchet is pretty tough stuff. Let us know if it works for you....or if you break it, so I don't suggest it again. Heh.
