Hello fellow boaters;

I'm looking to move up in the world from my 14' open fishing boat and am considering a 2005 Princecraft 164SS with a 75 HP Mercury 4-stroke. Intended use is pulling the kids on a tube, kids on waterskiis and a little fishing. The 75 might normally be a little light for pulling a skier but the boat only weighs 1400 lbs with the motor. I've pretty much decided on aluminum over glass so I don't need advice on that aspect but I'd like to hear comments regarding this boat/motor combination and, hopefully, from someone who has owned or used this model.

The boat is rated for max 75HP. A 1000 lb boat with 75 HP should be fairly quick, right?

I did and google search and checked out a few of them. Looks like a very nice boat! I'm a big fan of dual console aluminum boats and that one would certainily be on my list if I was shopping.

Yes, they're a nice boat for sure. Here's a pic of the one I'm looking at:

Looks fantastic. Almost exactly what I hope to upgrade to at some point though I think I'll be going a foot or 2 larger hopefully with something in ballpark of 115HP.

Nothing wrong with the Merc but
I think you might do a little better pulling skies with an Etec 75. 320lbs,Merc is 399.
Etec on Alumacraft Navigator 165cs.1935lbs as tested 39 mph,3.5 sec to plane.Maybe you can find some Merc or other outboard tests to compare.
