As a parent, I can tell you, a good babysitter is hard to find.
We have ONE that we would trust our son to (a former co-worker, and her daughter)... and that's it. If she's not available, one of us has to watch him... no matter what else we had planned, including a marathon.
Just my take on it... but he might have a legit reason there. Otherwise it would seem like a better idea to run it together, that way you have someone egging you on to get farther, faster, than you would have otherwise. After all, it's not like either one of them really stands a chance of winning, but that's not the point of running a marathon, the point is only to finish, and finished with the best time that you can.
