I talked to my BIL tonight and he backed out of a marathon because my sister registered to run in it. Granted she is an avid runner, but I guess they're more competitive than I thought. His excuse was to watch their kids, but deep down I think he was worried about getting smoked. Too funny...

As a parent, I can tell you, a good babysitter is hard to find.

We have ONE that we would trust our son to (a former co-worker, and her daughter)... and that's it. If she's not available, one of us has to watch him... no matter what else we had planned, including a marathon.

Just my take on it... but he might have a legit reason there. Otherwise it would seem like a better idea to run it together, that way you have someone egging you on to get farther, faster, than you would have otherwise. After all, it's not like either one of them really stands a chance of winning, but that's not the point of running a marathon, the point is only to finish, and finished with the best time that you can.

Actually, my sister has won several, but I see your point. I'm still going to make fun of him :D

Oh wow, well she's quite the runner then!! Running a marathon is one thing.. winning one is quite another story. There are olympic athletes that couldn't win a marathon, so you should be quite proud of her.
