Most of my stringers are 1x6s. If I use 36" wide cloth, cut in half to 18" wide, 6" on each side of the stringer that would give me 3" on each side to glass down to the hull. Is that enough:confused:.

The more the better, as this glass overlap onto the hull helps ease any hard spot that may have been created by the stringer. You'll have to do more than one layer also.

I would do something like 8" 6" 4"...overlapping on either side

Re: Minimum Cloth At Base of Stringer to Glass In Stringer

hey m spring.....

thoes stringers are the frame of your boat.....

they need to be nailed down.....uh...... not literally.....:D

if your stringer is 6 ins high and one inch thick and the first layer you want a 3 ins each side stringer hull contact point...(overlap)....
then you cut your cloth at. 6+6+1+3+3=19 inches.....

your next layer...you want a 2 inches overlaping the other cloth...so it must be wider... thats 6+6+1+5+5=23 inches wide

your third and final...you want another 2 inch over lap...
6+6+1+7+7= 27 ins

each layer overlaps the preivious.... and each layer has more hull contact than the last layer......that way all three layers have minimum 2 inches of hull contact and all reinforce each other

now ....having said all that ...remember that the stringers are probably not 6 ins high all the way thru the bote...they may be closer to four ins near the back....(transom)....dont worry about it.....either cut the cloth different or trim it in place.....or just leave it....giving you a wide hull contact point...

kinda confusing but
i hope that gives you a clear picture

cheers
