i posted on a 1976 115 last week
this week i looked at a 1980 115 he claimed he was doing maint after
water pump change . he had the heads off this motor was supposed rebuild
but the pistons were carboed bad but all cyl walls were nice . do all the cross flows are boat engines have that little bit of side play.plus if it were a rebuild
it woulldnt have standard pistons in it / unless they resleeved /and that doesnt make since .because it cost more to resleeve than to bore /
so not sure may wait till he puts heads back on and comp check
are the trim units on those years easier to find any input will be good thanks very much bennyb

Hi Benny,
Sometimes a rebuild only involves one piston, and maybe some rings on the others. Did the guy say exactly what was involved in the rebuild? How many hours on it since the rebuild - obviously some if the pistons are carboned on the crowns.
Yes, PT&T systems are much easier to find, and find parts for, on the 1980s models...

he claimed rebuild was last year but all pistons are standard
meaning that he would have to have resleveed all holes or they honed and put pistons back in holes .all the outboards ive looked at have slack in bore between piston and bore i guess for expansion under heat
is this normal

For what it is worth - - There are a lot of posts here where the seller claims this & that - only for the buyer to find out later that all he bought was problems. Beware - - -
