Hi all:

I have a 1996 25 HP Yamaha outboard tiller motor. It sat on my boat for a year. It ran perfect the last time I used the motor. I did not drain the fuel (DUMB) but removed the carb and no surprise, it was gunked up. I thoroughly cleaned and then rebuilt it. Motor fired over, would not idle, but would run at mid to top end. I read an article here and one of you had an issue like this but also replaced the fuel pump. I did that as well. I also cleaned the fuel lines and filter.

Now, motor fires up, will not idle and sounds like marbles in a tin can. I did not touch any of the linkage tied to timing except for the throttle rod which pops off easily.

Any suggestions? Thanks to all, I appreciate this site and those of you who offer your experiences so guys like me don't make big mistakes.

Keep boating!

Re: 1996 C25 Yamaha problem

things I woud check:

idle jet, has very tiny holes

main jet, has tiny holes

idle air screw, check factory specs for starting position

take all covers off and make sure all vent ports are clear. there are a lot of tiny vent tubes that run through the carb body.
