Hello,
I am looking for an autopilot for my 21' triumph. I will mostly be using it for slow trolling for smallmouth on Erie. I was set on Raymarine's S1000, but I have read on several threads that it does not hold course well when slow trolling, which is what I will be doing 95% of the time with it. On at least one of the threads the guy was using it on a 30' and the S1000 is recommended only for boats up to 25'. So this may have had something to do with it. Does anybody have any idea what this issue may possibly be attributed to? If it is a problem has anything been done by Raymarine to rectify it? Thanks for any help.

Re: Raymarine S1000

I have a sport pilot and I'd rather have the S1000. Trolling at slow speeds can be difficult depending on the wind. My sport pilot works good going with the wind. Going into a stong wind is almost impossible with or without an autopilot.

Re: Raymarine S1000

If the s1000 won't hold a course it's setup incorrectly. On my 22CC I have to reduce the response to the lowest value when trolling. Right around 3knts. is as slow as you can go. Below 3knts the gps dosn't send good heading data. The s1000 has 4 functions you can set manually to get most any boat to hold a course trolling. Nice unit.
