3m 5200

I recently dry fitted new stringers into my 21' FG fishing boat and am wondering what you guys think of using the 5200 as a bedding under the stringers? If the 5200 is only 8 bucks why not use it under the stringers? Would it still be too hard a surface on the hull. I have a 3/16"+ gap between stringers & hull.

Any thoughts?

and they will never come out for the next guy. PL 100% poly construction adhesive.

I used that PL 100% poly construction adhesive. It is kinda soft even after it kicks. I used a lot of it so it was like a cushion between the stringers and the glass hull. It is "PL" brand and it is 100% poly. Good stuff. Its poop brown though but who is going to see it. LOL

Thanks for the advise guys, much appreciated. I guess the bottom line is that whatever is used should be soft enough to form a sort of cushion between stringers & hull avoiding hard spots.

Checked with my local Home Cheapo - 5200 $8.96 per 10 oz. tube.

If you want to be surprised by home depot, check out their web site, and in the search box type "marine"... they even sell some Garmin gps units.

Just use peanut butter to bed your stringers. It will be cheaper than 5200 and it will not cause hard spots. Hard spots are not caused by using peanut butter.

Wow. That was interesting. Who do think they are? WalMart? But of course you can't get boat paint . .. Go figure.
