Just realized that I have never been off work for more than a week at a time in 30 years. Now that I'm off for 18 days and this is day 6,,,,,I'm just not use to not doing anything.

TV stinks, can't physically work on anything, computer makes my eyes hurt, and my dog can't understand why I'm home so much. Wife likes it though :D

She sez I'm eating too much,,,,,,probably so :D Can't even drink beer yet due to the meds.

Welcome to the world of the old, the halt and the lame. Remember any day that you see the green side of the grass, that you can wipe your own butt, roll over in bed, or that you can tell someone that you love them it is a good day! May God grant you more.

This year I have failed one of the above tests for a few days. Several of my close friends have failed the others.

Spring will come. Learn to enjoy others talent and abillity. I'm sure they will share with you as others have shared with me. May God grant you recovery quickly also!

Maybe you need to explore a new hobby. Finding Iboats and wanting to put my old boat back to original has given me many hours of "new" things to plan to enjoy. I retired 8 years ago and am just now starting to really enjoy it. Its your time have some fun.

I agree TV sucks. A tivo would help some. I got to get one of those someday. I know your injured SS mayfloat and can't work. For you retired people you can come do my job and I'll retire for you if it's bothering you that much. :D

Now ain't that just a cheery thought! Yep, they are all good ... even the bad days ... cause in the bad we might be able to learn something!

Re: 30 years n finally bored silly

Oh, I've got lots of projects and hobbies in work. They are just on hold until my knee gets full range of motion. My main problem is while I'm sitting and laying around I think of new stuff that I want to do.

I can only make out so many "To Do" lists before boating season. ,,,,,Ah yep, #1,,"Don't forget the plug'! :D

This does make me think how terrible it would be to be laid up permantly. Just glad my problem can be fixed.

This is day 7 and it has been exactly 1 week since the surgery. At least I'm getting around more each day. Just doing my best not to over work my knee.

Ditto, Amen! Plus after a constant undercutting, by a surplus of young guys, & minorities, and a shortage of jobs in my trade, and I was a certified X-ray pipefitter/welder for 30yrs, even welded in a Nuclear powerhouse Reactor. I managed to get out with my skin (retire early) for serious health reasons, just so I could have a Steady improved income! Things were that bad. Hey I've got plenty of fixer uppers, an old boat, jet ski, vehicles, and there's always somethin to do around the house (besides maintenance) like do the dishes, make dinner, vacuum the rugs, etc,,,lol

Re: 30 years n finally bored silly

I may be in that situation a lot sooner than I thought. The company I work for is imploding, and I'll be out of a job by the end of April. Michigan has been in a one-state recession since the tech crash of 2001 (?), so there are very few jobs around here. I'm 58, too young and too poor to retire. :(

I've got probably 40 books on my bookshelf I've bought over the last 10 years or so that I've wanted to read but haven't had the time. This board does wonders at filling extra time.:D

My dad retired early (age 58 in 1978) but he retired from a big manufacturing company with a nice pension, plus a civil service pension, plus veterans benefits, plus profits from his hobby of investing. Anyway, the first 2.5 years he just sat and read books he'd accumulated. We were a little concerned, but once he caught up on his reading, he got up and did a lot of other stuff.

What other hobbies / interests do you have?

Re: 30 years n finally bored silly

I retired at age 39 from military service of over 22 years.

Stayed home for 2 weeks then took a management position with several different companies. did not like the corporate world at all.

Started a small construction company, mostly re-model work, still going strong. Great foreman and small crew, licensed and incorporated I just do the paperwork now.

Have a few rental units, pain in the behind but allow me some flex funds for my hobbies.

Now I have an engineering position in sales on retrofit lighting, easy to do no pressure and climate controlled. Bored to death and thinking about full retirement but cant see it yet only 44 soon to be 45 later in the year.

Both neighbors retired, older ones complains of property taxes, the younger one complains of not enough play money for his horse hobbies.

Don't know what I am going to do but thankful for every day I am allowed to be indecisive.

Carve a wooden ship or build a complicated model. When I was recovering from an injury I built a scale model trebuchet from wood.

Now your talking SS...:D:D:D Hope all heals well for you. Just make sure you follow up with what ever rehab the Doc. prescribes. I did not when I had ankle surgery, consequently I have a less than full motion in it now. :(

Mine is big enough to launch popcorn, or cat treats, an M&M but the dog can not have chocolate..... but even small dog treats.

I did mine from scratch no kit no plans.

Re: 30 years n finally bored silly

I too have been outta commision since late October. Herniated disc and pinched nerve. Luckily I'm not in pain but my leg is numb and weak. Makes gettin around a bit of a chore. I gotta do the dishes or I'll go batty, it's sad but I actually look forward to it just for the project. I have a snowmobile that I can't ride and it's 20 below so boatin is out of the question. Been takin the dog for some extended walks, spendin time with the girlfriend and mastering Need for Speed Pro-Street for the PS2. The worst part is my girlfriends car broke and I had to bring it to someone to fix it. That really hurt, but hey what am I gonna do?
