i am replaceing bushings on the mid section of a 150 evinrude 1983
it has some slack in it in the main steering shaft cant get motor mount bolts out to take off mid the boat guy i use says 100$ and parts any suggestions
im useing 3/8 ratchet no good way to heat up should i go to impact
1/2 inch drive or pay the 100 $
any suggestions

Maybe I can hep a little.
You might wish to douse all the nuts and bolts you have to loosen up in penetrating oil.There is a very good chance that the threads are welded together by electrolysis which happens in salt water.
Another possibility is that loctite was used during assembly.In that case a little bit of heat will do miracles.
Whatever you do,try not to break the bolts,because drilling bolts out is a bbitch.

pb blaster is great stuff, I have also had some great results using white vinegar and water, vinegar is an acid and will take off most corrosion, galvanic and dissimiliar.(spelling?).

Just be careful if you use the vinegar as it will also ruin the finish on any painted surface.

good morning d hadley its the motor mount bolts so far
havent got to large bolt underneath yet orderd parts from ishop marine
the bushing keeper and seals and thrust washers .
itts been 4days and the only thing they have waiting to ship is the powerhead to adapt gasket ,looks like it going to take awhile
i guess i could have grabed my gun and went to neworleans and picked up
lol
