OMC pin removal tool

I asked this in my other thread about coils but thought i'd start a new thread.
To remove and insert the new trigger wires into the rubber plug on my 175 do i really need the removal and insertion tool? Looking at 50 bucks for something i will rarely use.
Any home made tool tips?
I thought about cutting the wire and putting new ends on them for the screw terminals on the new coils but would rather use the new wires that come with the coils.

Most tools have some kind of tube to fit over the pin, with a rod inside that can be pushed to force the part out. Alcohol is used as a lubricant.

When inserting, the wire is fed through and then the tool pushes the pin into place from inside.

a small striaght pick can push the pin out, small electronic needle nose pliers can insert them. did it that way for years while waiting on the dealership to actually buy the tools.

I used a pair of pliers and rubbing alcohol. The removal tools from omc cost over 100 dollars. With alcohol as lubrication I was able to remove and insert the pin with ease.

I have some very small needle nose and a couple picks..
That will save me a few bucks!

An easy to make pin removal tool can be made from a piece of hobby store brass tubing that will fit over the pin.

For installation, grind away part of the side of the tubing so it will fit around the pin from the wire side and then can press it into place.

Good idea,I was thinking about making something out of a small piece of steel tubing.
The coils came this evening by the big brown truck so i'll be changing them tomorrow if its not too cold out.
Ordered them yesterday at 3pm...that was fast for free shipping

I wish the parts I ordered from the US arrived that quickly!

Unfortunately, our online suppliers for aftermarket parts are not as vast as in the US.

I'm lucky ebasicpower is about 3 hours away...Most places it takes at least 4 or 5 days..

Yea,A little pricey on the tool.
I ordered the CDI coils but they shipped Sierra,They called me to let me know they were out of stock on the CDI parts and it would be a couple weeks before they got them in.I fussed about it and got a 25 dollar credit.
They look fine,It says on the coil made in Germany for OMC..They said if i have any problems let them know.I order a lot from them but may rethink that in the future...
They look like quality parts but we will see.....I usually avoid Sierra parts.
