No parts for older Bravos?

A guy I "know" is looking at a 1991 model SeaRay with a Bravo 1 in it. His local mechanic is telling him that any Bravo drive with a serial number below "OK" will not have replacement parts for the upper unit. I had not heard of this and thought Bravos were all the same from their beginning until 2005. Is the mechanic correct and should this guy avoid the boat because of it? Thank you all.

I almost think I would tell him to avoid the mechanic instead of the boat!

Well, I do know that the first Bravos didn't have the reservoir in the boat, and therefore didn't have the hole in the upper housing. But that isn't what this guy said exactly. I was trying not to jump to conclusions, so that's why I posted on here, before I told this guy the same you you just typed!

Ok a tiny bit more info has come in. Something about "If the older Bravo has the Aluminium blocks next to the transom assembly "celery sticks" Mercuirser request that the unit be replaced not fixed. The boat could roll over. " ?? I have heard of those adjustible trim shims that allow the drive to tuck under more or less. But I didn't think they required a complete change of the upper unit. Can't they just be eliminated or changed over to a nonadjustible shaft?

Re: No parts for older Bravos?

doesn't the "OK" mean Oklahoma Mercruiser factory?

Nope, it's also a 0(zero)K and the K just comes after the L's in the serial number range.

Not sure what information that mechanic is looking at, but the upper gear housing changed for a Bravo 3, not a Bravo 1 for the trim spacers.
Might want to show this SB to your friend and see if this is what they are refering to.
As far as I know, there is no problems getting drive parts for any Bravo.
