Hi guys,
I just bought a 1964 Merc 650 that has a two bladed prop. Do you think that's what it had on it when it was new? If I get this thing running is there a better more efficient prop.

Theoretically, the most "efficient" prop would have one blade. Obviously that's hard to do because of balancing problems and the term begs the question, "efficient in what sense?"

If the pitch is appropriate for your boat and you are looking for top end, the two blade is probably a good one. Try it out and see how you like it.

Ayuh,........
It's an Irreplacable Antique,+ belongs hanging on a wall somewhere.......

Get yourself a 3 bladed prop of the proper pitch,+ Go Boating........

Same answer 2nd poster,...........;)

Most likely the 650 came with a 2 bladed prop that performed well at speed
but was probably limited for all around use.A modern design 3 blade will perform better over more conditions. My guess is the 71 115 came with a 3 blade. Before changing anything you should establish your present max rpm and speed prop size, tell us about the boat and typical load and activities.

My boat weights about 950 pounds. I ususally take 5 people and a big cooler. We do not pull anything tubes, skiers althought i think my boat may be running better this year to where i might. It has a 19p 2 blade prop on a 1971 1150 motor. The boat is a tri-haul. Let me know what you recommend thanks.

I have a 1964 Glasspar Sportsman 17 which I have no clue if the motor runs just yet. I'm not sure what the boat weighs either. If I can get this motor running I'll try it out and give you all the info. The boat is rated for 160hp so I know it's way underpowered with the 65.

P.S. I couldn't log in as Mike_Berry so I changed my user name.
