Re: '75 Johnson 135 V4 (Need Help water issue)
hello,
could u explain more about best way to ensure water tube gets slid in correctly and how to set up to do a cooling flush with l/u off and vernatherm out?
thanks...

Best advice I have found is to have 2 people if at all possible. I myself find it amusing to use my wife (who is quite weak!) to hold the lu while I line up the water tube (taking my time of course

) On some models it seems like no matter how strong you are, it is difficult to line up the impeller housing grommet with the water tube, and get it to slide in smooth, without knocking it aside by yourself. This is a common problem. It doesnt call for it, but I find if I put a little gasket sealing compound on the edges of the grommet where it contacts the impeller housing, then a little dish soap on the water tube, it helps it slide in without knocking it aside. I have personally bought 2 outboards that the previous owner said were overheating, and both times found the impeller housing grommet shoved into the impeller housing, restricting water flow.
As far as flushing, I feel it is good maintainence to flush the cooling system when you service the water pump and t stats. Remove 1 t stat, run compressed air or the garden hose up the water line to the t stat housing, then backflush it back down from the t stat housing to the water line. Replace that t stat, then do the same thing for the other t stat. (if applicable) This is also a good time to clean out the exhaust with some Deep Creep and ensure the water intake area is free of debris.
