Re: rocker arm cover installation

Thank you, gentlemen., I appreciate the pictures, DonS. There are about 20 Permatex products to choose from at the store and many have the same purpose description. Also, there were no instructions with the gasket set (Quicksilver)

Coors, I use acetone for most of my cleaning tasks ( an old habit growing up making surfboards, etc., not really that safe though...)

For both the gaskets and the end sealers, how clean is clean? Are some stains OK, or do I need to hone/scrub the surfaces down to bare shiney metal?

The links I have posted are for specific products for a specific purpose. If you find something that says it will work, use it.

Stains don't create leaks. Old gasket material can.

I've installed the intake manifold, etc., but I have an embarrasing question:

How do I refill the block with coolant with a closed cooling system? The thermostat stops the flow. Pull the thermostat?

Re: rocker arm cover installation

I figured it out, Coors: It is actually a volvo/merc mutt setup. The heat exchanger is a vertical tank with a short horizontal fill tank. (duh, the key word there is FILL ) I poured a couple of gallons of 50/50 in before it began filling the side tank. I guess I'll run it for awhile and top it off as necessary.

Here's a picture:

try drilling a 1/8 bleed hole in the thermostat it makes filling much easier ,doesnt seem to affect running temp

Re: rocker arm cover installation

Thanks for the response, DanT. I was able to fill it through the top tank on the cooler. I filled it to about halfway up the horizontal tank. I ran it until the thermostat opened. I poured in a little more coolant to bring it back to the half way level.

Question: Does anyone know how full the tank should be?

From the picture, it's a Volvo. Nothing looks like Mercruiser to me.
To fill the cooling system, remove the cap on the expansion tank (radiator cap) and fill to full. Make sure the engine is either level or front higher than back to prevent air bubbles from causing an overheat.
