wiring question

in the process of installing fish finder in my 16' westcoaster. the power cable is to short, and the book says to add extra length of 18ga wire. the water proof fuse holder i have appears to be about 10-12ga. will useing this holder cause any problem with the circuit? been told to never use smaller ga. but is it ok to use larger.....thanks

Larger wire size won't hurt electricaly. Don't increase the fuse value. That always must be the weakest link.

Larger gauge wire on low amp circuts is no problem it will actually insure the equipment gets all the amps it needs.

On the other hand large equipment loads on small thin gauge wire will cause big problems.

You will be fine since the equipment requires smaller thinner wire then the fuse holder so your not creating any problems. If the fuse holder wire was smaller then the equipments wire then you have a potential fire hazzard!
