I have a 25 hp Mariner with reverse . I had to drop the lower unit to replace the carrier bearing. I have put the lower unit back on but can not get it to work properly. The leaver is binding and will not shift into reverse. I can move the leaver to foward but the but the prop stays in neutral. Any suggestions??

could be its misadjusted or the shift follower in the gear case fell off, remove the unit and see if it shifts with the unit off.
about how old is this 25 mariner? while they shared a lot with yamaha in some years it may be best to post this in the mercury/mariner section.

Re: no foward or reverse

Ok, I have read about the ajustable link and how it has both right and left treads. My problem is that mine does not have both only one. This means that that when I tighten one end the other loosens up. How and I supose to adjust this thing. Should I have taken the link apart at the top of the motor? If so, how in the world do ya unhook it. I seem to be runing in circles. Can I take it Any help is great.
