Trim goes up like a champ but not down. New boat to me, first attempt. Was down when I bought it, I actually put it up to buy, now trying to put back down. DOH! When I first pressed down on the switch on the motor, it started to go, but slowly (maybe 5 seconds) it just stopped going down, sounded like dead/dyeing battery. I was able to bring back up fine, and can still run motor up but not down (from control does not go down either).

Any ideas on that?
and

what is proper storage for the motor, up or down?

Thanks in advance

Proper storage is down. That motor has two solenoids fto run trim motor, yes? The green wire that runs to the trim motor needs to have +12V on it to trim down. Put a voltmenter on the solenoid and check for voltage on the trim motor leads when you hit the down button.

Well I have to admit I am not very handy with a fluke meter, but I am learning so tonight I decided I was going to give what you said a try. I oped lid, see 2 relays. My gut says if I swap relays and the things goes down but not up, then its a relay. BAM, unit now down and wont go back up, I'll need to find a relay. Should that be all I should be concerned about? or could something be killing the relay? Thanks again!

The relays break occasionally, due to the interaction of dirt, moisture and elextricity. I wouldn't worry about it unless the new one breaks quickly.

I guess I may as well ask here (as I wait for manual arrival)

Proper Oil?
Proper Fuel Octane?
Proper Gear Oil?
Proper Trim Fluid?
Proper Newbie Tips?

Please correct me if I am wrong....with motor tilted all the way up, release plastic screw on trim resevoir face, fill til oil fluid out, replace screw. I have seen in a couple searches that I have done that I should bleed the sys 2 or 3 times. How do I bleed it? is there another bleed screw, other than the fill hole? Thanks again in advance

OK, Use Dextron III auto trans fluid in the trim pump. Run it up and let it sit until the air bubbles out (bleeds out), and then refill resevoir. No seperate bleed screw exists.

Use regular gasoline and TCW-III 2 cycle oil, mixed at 50::1 ratio, unles that motor has oil injection. Use standard marine gear oil (not type C) in the lower unit gearcase. You can use synthetic gear oil if you want. Buy a quart container and a pump. Pump it into the gearcase from the bottom. Use gaskets on the gearcase plugs
