OK, now I am wondering about the 4.3L V6's. Are they any good? I once had a 92' Chev S10 Blazer 4.3L Vortec, it was a good running motor. Are these 4.3's any good? Lots of gadgets and gizmo's on that motor though.

I presume that the 350 small blocks are pretty bullet proof in the marine applications, I've built several for automotive applications. There is a certian comfort with the familiarity of this motor and knowing how the do my wrenching when under the gun.

What I am looking for is a twin powered 26 to 28 ft boat that I can take off shore tuna fishing. I want the safety of a back up motor to insure I do not get stranded 40 miles out. I am not looking for a race horse - just a rock solid dependable power package.

Thanks, Don

If your looking for a 26 to 28 footer I would suggest going with small blocks instead of the V6"s. Fuel usage is attractive with V6"s, but when loaded with fuel, gear and people you'll wish you had the small blocks. If you can afford it, go with big blocks.

Nothing wrong with 4.3s except that they seem to shake at idle. But if you are looking at boat of that size, twin V-8s are the way to go, even if they are 305s.

I agree, at least when you need to repower you can go up to 5.7's with out a hassle.......;)
I'd be looking for something with twin 5.7's if I were you....;)

No issue with the drive with that change?

I loved my 4.3 Vortec in my 1995 Chevy van. I put 135000 miles on it hauling carpet. Sold it to a guy 5 years ago and he is still running back and forth to Florida every other season with it. No issues that I know of.
In a boat though...... a big boat..... high rpm's all the time? Don't think it would be my first choice.

I was referring to the 305's in his post, not the 4.3's.....;)
