What is the average life expectancy of bellows in I/O boats used exclusively in salt water? Should they be changed on a set frequency or only when they show signs of deterioration which is inevitable? I have heard different opinions ranging from changing them every 4 years to every 10 years.
Thanks

Re: bellows

I think some have a set schedule, but usually that schedule is dictated by how they look and are they deteriorating. I also think it depends if your boat is stored in the water or not, sound like yours may not be, so if you wash everything off you can probably get many years out of one. When in doubt though, change it.

Re: bellows

your outdrive should be pulled atleast every 2 years, for service, alignment of the gimbal bearing, and inspection of the bellows. if in doubt at that time, change them. salt water will eat the guts of the outdrive, and the boat, if left unattended to. costly over site.
