compression 15 hp johnson 1977 seahorse

what is the compression on a 1977 15 hp johnson seahorse i can not get it started cold if spray fuel in it starts right up and runs fine carb has been cleaned twice .....when i pump bulb it is getting plenty of fuel but just wont start cold any help would be great thanks

good compression anything 100 or over with in 10% of each other. Is the choke working if so sounds like a carb. problem you may want to clean and rebuild.

Check, and see if the choke plate is going fully closed when you pull out the choke lever. If the carb has ever been apart, the choke lever may have been put in upside down, a common problem.

is there a web site that shows a break down of this carb i have cleaned it but did not pull choke plates out .but that sure dont mean some one else put them up side down i think there are holes in choke plate i will see wich way they are turned up or down thanks

I am not talking about the choke plates, I'm talking about the plastic lever that pulls the choke closed. You can't remove the carb without removing that lever. If it is turned upside down, it will not pull the choke closed. This lever has a slot cut at an angle, it has to be right side up.
