Re: Key Switch Bad

Check for voltage at the engine. The yellow/red wire at the solenoid should power up when you turn the key. If it does not, then it could be 1) wiring 2) nuetral safety switch 3) key switch.

Re: Key Switch Bad

clean the wiring terminals and posts on the solenoid, make 'em shine (use sandpaper if you have to). don't forget the ground connection on the engine.

Keyswitch terminal "S" should be hot with key turned to start, or test for continuity between "S" and "B". Neutral safefty switch should be closed with shifter in neutral, open in gear. Test yellow/red for continuity between keyswitch and main wiring harness plug.

could also be the inline fuse near the solenoid.

That diagram may not be the right one for your control, but nevertheless, if the choke is working, it is not the fuse. Does your choke work by a toggle switch?

I would guess that the neutral safety switch is loose or shot, or that the ignition switch should be replaced.

You can check everything with an ohmmeter without dissassembly.
