I took my impeller back got my $56 and bought the whole OMC water pump repair kit for $35 more. The OMC pump housing does not have a place for the seal like the original pump housing does. Model number 85890.

My questions are:

Is there not any seal (part# 0321453 I believe) for the drive shaft hole on the top of the OMC water pump? How important is this? I would really like to go with the new pump housing even though there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the old one.

I can't remember which way the old bloomed water pump impeller came out to save my life..... Which direction do the ears need to turn on the new impeller?

This way if you are looking up from the bottom.

Push the housing down on the impeller and turn the driveshaft clockwise. Everything will fall in place.

Alright thank you. Should I worry about the seal?

No, there should be an o-ring above the metal though.

OK so I don't half to worry about the seal in this spot with the red circle around it there is no seal.

It sort of scares me though that I can slide a piece of paper up between the bolt on pipes and the pump housing.

Correct me if I'm wrong.....There is an o-ring that is supposed to go here?

I was starting to think that I was missing some parts out of this kit that I bought, maybe I am, or maybe not. I went ahead and installed the impeller in the housing by the way (in the direction that you mentioned).

Well I'm going to go through my repair kit tomorrow and do an inventory on what parts came in the box. I hate to say it but I think I got screwed :(, again I could be wrong. I'm viewing the BRP's website as I go along also.

I don't know...I'm so new to this part of the maintenance process, I'm learning as I go. I still can't afford a manual .

You should have a rubber tube like insert that fit in there. What is the part number of the kit that they sold you?

I'll get the number right quick, it was an old package that this repair kit came in.

Part number for the repair kit is 0395073

I realize I have the arrow pointing to the wrong pipe, I meant to point it at the short part. There is a rubber sleeve that goes in that smaller diameter port.

Anyway, open up that thumbnail on my last post and see what the parts should look like with the new pumps. Did they give you an 0-ring and some Moly-Lube for the top of the driveshaft in that kit?

They sold you an old kit. That has superseded to 5001594.

I have 2 o-rings one for the top of the metal impeller cup, one for the drive shaft and I did get the grommet for the short pipe (drive shaft hole). I did get the gaskets. I have the small package of moly lube.

 I am missing certain numbers (off of that diagram that you listed) 76, and 90 so far out of that kit, I'm pretty sure those didn't come in the kit :(. That means another long trip to the marina, I guess I'll get the nylon washers while I'm down there for the plugs, I don't wanna take a chance on the washers that my father says he has. Why me???????!!!!!!!!

When you use the new BRP site, each line has a little magnifying glass. When you click on that it gives you more information, like the newest part number, which you will want to order next time. Most dealers will look that up if you give them the model and serial number.

I'm completely wrong here, I forgot that this was a 78 model and that you have the slotted driveshaft and impeller.

The worst thing is I called them ahead of time (before I went down and bought the kit), to make sure that they would take this impeller back. I gave them the model number of the motor and asked for the man's name that way when I got down there I could get right in touch with him. After arriving down there he (a young guy) went and grabbed the box after I mentioned who I talked with about a kit and I got screwed from there obviously. To bad I can't charge them for gas for another trip, I can get those nylon washers in town.

Do you have the part numbers or have a link to the new BRP website, I must be looking at the old website.

Thanks to everyone.

Ezeke, I don't know what I'm going to do with ya man LOL, I thought I was drowsy and slacking from this long trip I just got back from (Florida). So....Do I have parts missing or what?

We posted nearly at the same time so I missed your last post until a couple of minutes ago.

It's alright, we all make mistakes. I was seriously fixing to go down tomorrow and have a talk with that man at the marina, I'm not one to lose my temper so I wouldn't of "cursed" the man out (for example).

Hey I just made Ensign
