Generally, a hesitation from idle to full throttle means a lean condition. Richining the idle mixture will improve the condition.

You don't say what motor it is, so a generalized answer would be too lean at slow speed. Or the throttle sync is off. Or the intermediate ports are clogged in the carburetor(s). Or you are jamming the throttle (not giving it a chance). Most outboards don't have accelerator pumps like old cars did. There are other provisions for that built into the carb though.

That is what's known as a "Lean lag".

thanks for yalls answers. But is there anything else that could cause my engine to stall like this? i am almost 2 turns out on my fuel/mixture screw so i was hoping yalls answer would be to lean it out, but i am getting the answer to make it richer? I dont want to overdue it though!! what else should i check tio solve this stalling issue?

i dont know what engine or carburators you have, so it would be a guess.

most carbs have an idle circuit. some are fuel metered some are air metered. some "epa" carbs on multi carb engine dont have an idle circuit.

some carbs have an intermediate circuit.

all carbs have a high speed cuircuit.

if you momentarily die when you advancing the trothle to wot than from the idle to high speed circuit at some point its not getting tenough fuel.
as soon as the high speed takes over bam fuels back.

so yes i would clean the idle and intermidiate circuit. clean the whole carb.
set the float level.
set the carb to fact spec and then tweak it a little richer is better than to lean.
if you have fixed air jets there is nothing to adjust only replace orifices with other sizes.

hope it will help you.

All of the outboard motors I've ran will hesitate if you slam the throttle open. As it was said above, they have no accelerator pump to instantly richen the mix. It takes a little bit for the fuel in the highspeed circuit to react to the change in throttle plate position. I alway open the throttle more gradually, like over a 2 second time frame, that seems to allow the motor to accelerate without a hesitation. I can push the throttle fast enough to kill the motor, the idle circuit would have to be very rich to make up for that much air all at once.
