07 Merc 25 hp EFI 4-stroke - anyone got one?

I'm considering buying a new, last year's stock one. Would be electric/manual start, tiller version. Anyone have a season's worth of experience to share? Any known problems or annoyances? How smooth/quiet are they? I like the Honda's that I've seen running for how quiet they are, I'm not sure if the merc would be as good that way... maybe there's some injector noise in the mix?

I like the idea of the quietness and smooth idle of the 4-stroke... I'm not sure what to think about EFI.... more complexity to go bad (?) or a good thing (?).

Any thoughts or experiences are appreciated! Thx

Wow! 1 week to late. My dad just sold his 2007 25hp 4-stroke in MINT condition. Only used 3 times and had proper break in. he traded it in for a 40 2-stroke because he needed more power. He would have taken around $2500 for it. (thats about what he got on trade in). It was a perfect motor. Started 1st turn, super quiet, and sometimes didnt even know it was running, and super smooth.

Even though I prefer Evinrude, Merc as well as just about everyone else makes really nice outboards, 4 or 2 stroke.

I own a 2007 Tohatsu 25 wich is the same as the Mercury. It is very quiet and smooth. I have no complaints with mine. You may want to check Tohatsu to see if you could get one cheeper than the Merc.

The only problem we had was on a new one that had metal shavings in the fuel pump. Dumped out the body and it ran like a scalded Chavez.

Well, I'll be able to write up a review of my own later this spring... I took the plunge and now have a new in box 25 hp Merc EFI 4 stroke waiting in my friend's garage until I can swing down and pick it up. The deal struck me as too good to pass up.

This will be the first thing in quite a few years where I actually get to do the break in period. :) This new outboard will replace my 1970 Evinrude 25 hp Sportster.

One thing you need to know on that engine....It's EFI so you will have to really crank on the engine the first time you start it out of the box as the fuel system was purged after being test run at the factory. Instant starts after that.

TG... good to know. Thx. When winterizing, do you run 'em out of fuel, or just run stabilized fuel through the fuel system? Probably covered in owner's manual... but I don't have it in hand yet.

fairlane... $2728 + taxes with a prop

I believe in emptying the fuel system for storage, but, if it will be exposed to fluctuating temps you might be better off with stabilized fuel due to water condensation.

You can download the manual from the Tohatsu website at www.tohatsu.com

Thanks for sharing your price,Doesnt sound bad at all........I assume the control cables for a non tiller cost extra.

no problem... not sure about relative cost of a remote vs. tiller version... if you need the whole control box, I'd guess that overall, the remote one would end up costing more. (?)

TG, thanks for the link... I'd already been there after your previous post :) Haven't gone through the manual in detail (yet).

Ya, locally the dealers here want over $4400 (canadian) for the same thing. A couple calls to other dealers in US border towns got similar prices to what you were quoted... that's why I was on this one like a duck on a junebug. :)
