What tank connection is correct for Evinrude?

I pulled the tank connection and hose this morning before heading to work so that I can stop by Gander Mountain at lunch. Both ends of the hose fit snug and snap into place on the motor, but they both wobble at the tank connection.

The hose is labeled OMC but I am still looking for ID numbers.

Do I need an Evinrude, Johnson, OMC or other connection at the tank?

On a single line tank, the same hose connector is used at both the engine, and tank. It is not uncommon for these connector's to have some wobble. Is yours giving trouble?

Does it leak at the tank? Or any signs of a problem running with air infiltration?

you are not getting it pushed all the way on. there is a clamp that drops into a groove in the fastening post. i have problems getting mine on correctly occasionally.

If the tank fitting is actually Evinrude/Johnson, then only two things can be wrong. You are installing the hose wrong or the spring under the release latch is missing or the latch itself is worn or damaged. The pointed fitting on the tank (the one with the groove in it) must go into the hose fitting on the side with the latch that you push when you take the hose off. A Johnson/Evinrude/OMC fitting is what you are looking for. The are all the same motors.

When I push the connection on, the catch falls into the groove; however, this leavs about a 1/16" gap between the two connections. On the other hand, both fit onto the motor with a positive click and slight movement.

I may be mistaken but I think I have the wrong tank fitting.

I think you have the wrong tank fitting also. There is a look-alike but different size fitting that fits one of the import motors, Honda or Yamaha or some such fool thing.

The brass connection at the tank is correct for a Johnson/Evinrude, the hose fitting is also correct but it is broke. I bought a new hose end and stopped by an autoparts store and bought a 90 degree 1/4" npt to 5/16" fitting. So between the two parts, that issue will be fixed tonight.

I also picked up a spark gap checker and two QL77JC4's.
