Tahoe advertises "No Haggle, No Hassle, nationwide value pricing" Is this telling me that they don't negotiate pricing? I think the Tahoes are good boats for good prices...but something about paying sticker price just doesn't seem right...

Re: Tahoe No Haggle, No Hassle Prices

When I bought my boat last May, I worked hard on the internet trying to find lower pricing. For the most part, they priced the same on the 2007 models. I found some 2006 models (Q6 SF), and there was some minor pricing differences. In the end, rather than pricing differences, I was able to find differences in how they were outfitted, such as the trailer, bimini top, wireless tolling motor, etc. Plus Tahoe was offering $1000 off 2006 models.

I've been looking pretty hard over the past six or so months and haven't been able to find any different prices. I printed off the sheet from the Tahoe website with all the options I wanted and then went to the local dealer. Told them the options I wanted and he quoted me the exact same price.

From what I can tell, Tahoe makes a good boat at a really good price. We'll see, I am ordering a 2008 Q6SF this weekend.

That's just a marketing gimmick. All dealers will negotiate pricing. I bought my Tahoe Q7i w/5.0 Mercruiser MPI, 260 hp last August and am pleased with it, so far. Just wished I got the larger power plant.

I learned the hard way, go to a local dealer when you buy. Ok to price around at BPS,Gander ect, but when you want to buy find a local who you can trust and will take care of you. they can usually give a few extras besides the price , but they will take you out on the boat on show you the little things that the big guys don't.

Re: Tahoe No Haggle, No Hassle Prices

Paul, it's interesting that you say that because I ran across the same thing this weekend. I had gone down to Gander Mtn and was ready to order a Tahoe. When I asked some questions (i.e. about the X47 fishfinder, or up-grading to dual brakes, or SS vs alum for the bimini top), they were basically "Well, whatever you want, we'll put on it". When I asked about registration for the trailer and the boat, they told me I would have to go to DMV and take care of that.

Then, this past weekend I went to a boat show and talked to a local Tahoe dealer. We spent over 3 hours talking about different options, and what they would do for set up and delivery, and different models. The guy was very much more knowledgeable than the Gander folks. Plus they take care of all warranty registrations and registering the boat and trailer for DMV. They give you a complete walk around while on the trailer, help you launch the first (if you need it) and are there to answer any questions we had.

I have heard from a couple of other boaters, and they also highly recommended this particular dealer for their outstanding customer service.

Glad I took the time to go the boat show.

Re: Tahoe No Haggle, No Hassle Prices

I spoke a sales rep at the local Bass Pro Shop today. After about my 5th question, he finally admitted that he has not yet seen the Q7i's. He said that they've ordered some, but they haven't arrived yet. The closest BPS with a Q7i in stock is at the HQ in Springfield, MO...

There are several Tahoe dealers here in town, so I think I am going to abandon BPS and move on to a dealer.

Ret USN CPO...I take it from your comments, that you feel the move from
Q6 to a Q7 is worth the extra money? Which engine are you looking at? I am considering the 4.3 MPI 220 HP.

Yeah. Sitting in both and doing a side-by-side comparison was enlightening. The seats are nicer, the trolling motor is wireless, you can choose from two different paint schemes, the hold open on the hatch cover, the water tight cover on the radio, tilt steering wheel, the walk through transom, even the stowable fishing seats. It all made a big difference once I had the opportunity to look at both together.

I also think you are making the right decision in going with local dealer over a big box place like BPS. If BPS is anything like Gander Mountain, I felt more like a number than a valued customer...and that was during the sales portion. I can imagine what it would be like during the maintenance/warranty period.

I talked to a local dealer today and I was amazed at the difference. At BPS, I felt like I knew more about the boat then the sales rep did. While I like the store, I won't be buying a boat from Bass Pro Shops...

Good call on not purchasing from BPS. Which dealer did you talk to? I know Tulsa Boat Sales have factory blemish boats for a good discount. The only thing you loose is the cosmetic warranty, which just relates to the stickers and such.

I went to Jimmy Houston Marine in Broken Arrow. I talked to the manager there, he was very nice and had no problems in speding some time with and just talking about different boats and answered a lot of questions.

I thought about going by Tulsa Boat Sales. On the Tahoe site, they also list Windmill Run Marina (near Sapulpa I think) and Sundown Marine (Glenpool). I don't know anything about either one of those dealers, but I will likely pay them all a visit before all is said and done.

If you decide to buy, make sure you select a dealer close by your home. You will probably have to take it back a couple of times during the warranty period for something. I had to take mine back three times so far (installation of optional equipment that was back ordered, trailer problem, reverse gear slider needed adjustment).

I live 2 miles from sundown marine, and they will be taking care of all my needs from now on. They seem like really nice guys, and the turn around if fairly quick compared to most dealers.

Hey, Ret USN CPO, it says you are from northwestern Va. Would that be the Winchester area? I'm from Berkeley Springs. My current boat is over thirty years old so I been looking around at new. Tahoe Q-6 has what I want in a boat, and I may buy one this fall. We go on the Potomac at Dam 4, Lake Anna, and Raystown. I'll be looking for that new Q-7 with the guy smiling ear to ear!

Hey Slickcraft...Yep Winchester. I heard about the Potomac at Dam 4, but haven't ridden up there to check it out yet. Certainly Lake Anna, and I've also checked out Mt. Storm and Randolph-Jennings. They look like pretty good places too.

I go through Berkely Springs on my way up to Indiana to see family. Nice place, usually end up stopping at Mickey D's or Sheetz for coffee and a rest stop for the kids.

Re: Tahoe No Haggle, No Hassle Prices

I took delivery of a 2008 Tahoe Q4 SF last week and going through a dealer is definately the way to go. I had been to BPS in Memphis and a dealer in Jackson, TN and the prices were the same as the online pricing. I contacted the internet sales department of Tracker marine and made the same deal with them. I had to wait for one to be built because there was not one just like I wanted available. I financed through Tracker marine in January and after a nightmare getting it delivered to the dealer (confusion in the transportation department at Tracker) the dealer was ready for me to come pick it up March 22. When they contacted Tracker for the finance documents, the said they would no longer finance it without a co-signer because I had co-signed for my wifes car (Feb 5th tornado totalled hers). I asked the owner of the dealership to to use their bank. They got it financed in about 30 minutes, 3% less interest, two years less on the terms, $50 a month smaller payment, and $1500 less than Trackers price! Jacos Marine in Lawrenceburg TN took real good care of me then and since I found the firextinguisher was empty and a post was missing on the bimini top. One phone call and replacements were on the way. Barbara Jaco literally saved me thousands of dollars. They have a website and ship all over.

Congratulations on your new boat purchase!

If I'm ever in the neighborhood, I'll definitely drop by Jaco's Marine...Sounds like they're good, honest people. Don't find that too often anymore.

Re: Tahoe No Haggle, No Hassle Prices

Hi everyone. I just picked up a 2008 Tahoe Q4 SS from the BPS here in Memphis. I know a few people who have Tahoe's and love everything about them, so it was really a no-brainer for me. My only concern was the 3.0L mercruiser, but with the $$ I had saved for the boat, I could not afford anything more. I'm not a speeed freak, and will only be pulling my three kids around, so the 3.0L should do a great job. I might get on a kneeboard occasionally, but that's about it.

Hoping to take her out to Beechlake this weekend and start breaking in the engine. Looking forward to summer.

Great forum. Good information.
