Replacing springs/hardware?

I have a galvanized trailer - cant recall the brand right now - with very rusty springs, hangers and fenders. It is an odd design in that the fenders are actually connected directly to the spring hangers.

Where to I begin to find replacements for these parts?

Thanks

Re: Replacing springs/hardware?

It depends on whether your trailer uses conventional springs and axles with only the fenders bolted to the brake flanges or if it's a totally proprietary set up.
I have one trailer that uses normal axles, but the fenders are bolted on behind the hub to where a brake backing plate would normally fit. I have seen a few that used clamp on fenders and coil springs, which is a much older setup.
If the axle and springs are normal, and the fenders aren't salvageable, you might just end up mounting the fenders normally to the frame. I welded up and repaired the fenders on mine, but they weren't that bad and were made of heavy steel.
What brand trailer?
Got any pics?

Re: Replacing springs/hardware?

I took another look at it tonight, got home before the barn was too dark. It is a Lil Rider galvanized, and it is a standard leaf spring bolted to the the trailer frame with the hardware like the photos in the thread. The fenders then attached to the top of the spring shackles (and are completely rusty).

So it is not as much of an oddball as I thought - and the axle looks fine. So, where is the best place for the 2 springs, and all the hardware to mount the springs to the trailer, and the axle to the springs?

Thanks this is my first trailer redo.

Re: Replacing springs/hardware?

as i said in my thread "http://www.etrailerpart.com/" they were far cheaper, than anyone else. you can also get replacement fenders. they are also made of a PVC type material that do not rust now.

look at the site. they have springs with rings on both ends, and springs like mine that has the ring on one end, and the other goes into a slip shackle.
