Re: mercruiser engine block cracked

Also, just to be sure, how long does the engine have to run before I can see the water in the oil?

Ayuh,.....

That depends on How Big,+ How Many Cracks there are Inside the block.....

I Agree with whywhyzed,.... A V-motor doesn't take a Freeze,+ come out of it, Repairable......

Your motor is Junk,.... Face up to it,+ develop a Plan to deal with it.....
yes it cracked underneith the manifold, and also a small crack in the manofold. The oil level however is exactly the same as after I topped it off at the end of the season.

Have you pulled the Intake off,+ Looked,..??
Or are you talking about the Exhaust manifold,..??

Mine was cracked right above the lifter bores. About 4 inches long.. I had it pinned 3 years ago. No issues whatsoever.

Hello Everybody,

UPDATE: I hate to admit it but you were all right from the getgo. The block is toast, found water in the oil. I unscrewed the drain bold and foun lots of water before the oil came. Rebuild. Since I am movin the boat to salt water i am having a fresh water installed and getting a little more hp by buying a different block and different carb.

total damage................6000

it hurts but you cant stop boating!:)

How much HP? Will you be over-powering your drive?
Or changing the cam?
It matters

Good idea, You won't be sorry. If you're still in an area that has freezing weather and you tow it you'll still need to ensure that you drain the "raw" water side or run some anti-freeze solution thru the heat exchanger. water sometimes pools in the heat exchanger, oil cooler and power steering cooler so you must ensure that they are drained or put AF in them.

Cheers,

Rick

I have a 2007 4.3 with condensation up in the valve covers, had heads, exhaust manifolds, intake manifold checked all good. could this be a cracked block.

Welcome aboard 270. It's better to start your own thread than jumping in on one with a new question, especially when they get long people stop reading through them. You will get a lot more answers with a new thread. Go to the top and click on forum tools and the drop down box will say post a new thread. Click on that and you are good to go.
